“Sassetti - Peruzzi” institute is situated in Florence. It is a vocational school for tourism and commerce attended by many students from different countries and by a  lot of students with special educational needs supported by specialized teachers whose aim is to help them in learning some basic subjects.
It provides vocational qualification to about 580 students aged between 14 and 19. The institute is divided into 2 branches: the main school in Florence and the smaller school of Scandicci. In addition, there is also a class for inmates in Sollicciano prison.
Students come from a large variety of ethnic, social and economic backgrounds. The teachers work hard to discover new strategies to make vocational education attractive for them all.
The institute is constantly in contact with local companies (hotels and travel agencies, firms and business offices) where the students go for a work experience placement.
The school also runs some European projects to give the students the opportunity to know different cultures and to improve their language abilities.
As regards the main school in Florence, the students come from Florence and from its neighbourhood areas (Campi Bisenzio and Sesto Fiorentino).
In Scandicci, the students come mainly from Scandicci, Signa, Lastra a Signa, Impruneta.
The school has therefore a high percentage of commuters who create problems in the management of the timetable as a lot of students don’t usually arrive on time for the beginning of the lessons.
There are also a lot of non-Italian students (mainly in the school of Florence). Many of them come from China and represent the majority of the students who attend the first class (58%).

At the moment, in Italy, there is a process of reform in progress. This reform will affect all secondary schools, including the vocational ones. It is therefore possible that there will be changes in the organisation of our institute in the near future.
